The sentence was lower than the prosecutors` demand which was 2.5 years for Paskah and two years for the others.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former national development planning/ National Development Planning Board chairman Paskah Suzetta was sentenced to 16 months in jail on Friday for corruption.
Reading the verdict, chief judge of the Jakarta Corruption Court jury, Suwedy, said Paskah, along with other defendants, namely Ahmad Hafiz Zawawi, Marthin Brian Seran, Boby Suhardiman and Anthony Zeidra Abidin, had been conclusively and convincingly proven guilty of corruption.
The panel of judges sentenced all of them to 16 months in jail and fined them Rp50 million each or three more months in jail if they failed to pay the amount.
The sentence was lower than the prosecutors` demand which was 2.5 years for Paskah and two years for the others.
Among the factors favoring the defendants were their confession of receiving bribes in the form of traveler`s cheques and their long public service.
Paskah and the other defendants received the cheques while they were lawmakers in connection with the selection of central bank deputy governor Miranda Goeltom in 2004.
The judges said they had considered they had been ignorant and careless while their act was part of a series of acts of other people.
Earlier the panel of judges of the court had also sentenced five other recipients of the cheques to 16 months namely Baharuddin Aritonang, Asep Ruchiman Sudjana, TM Nurlif, Reza Kamarulla and Hengky Baramuly. (V002)
