Cikarang, West Java (ANTARA News) - A number of Thai army officers visited the Wijayakarya 051 Resort Military Command in Cikarang, West Java, to conduct a comparative study on the concept of territorial security and rural guiding officers (Babinsa).

The six high ranking Thai army officers were welcomed upon arrival here on Friday by the chief of the resort military command, Col Supartodi, and his personnel.

Supartodi said Thai army`s territorial security strategy only reaches districts and cities and not villages and they also do not adopt the concept of military-people unity like in Indonesia.

"Babinsa (rural community guiding officers) carry out security operations down to village level in cooperation with villagers so that any crime in villages could be detected earlier," he said.

Thailand`s Chief of Staff for Civil Affairs, Surasak Karn Janarak, meanwhile said on the occasion that cooperation between his country and other countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEN) have been very good.

He said a lot of problems had to be solved cross-border such as narcotics distribution and illegal workers. He admitted that Thailand had not implemented the concepts of territorial security and Babinsa.

"The concept of Babinsa is fit for implementation in Thailand," he said.

He said he hoped he could take a lot of lesson from the visit and at the same time improve cooperation in security affairs at ASEAN levels.
