Messina (ANTARA News/AKI) - Italian anti-mafia police in the city of Messina in northeastern Sicily have received orders from investigating magistrates to impound more than 150 million euros worth of assets in connection with dozens of people under investigation for crimes related to organized crime.

The 30 suspects in the case are the targets of probes into mafia association, murder, extortion, illegal use of arms.

The assets allegedly stem from laundering gains made from illegal businesses.

Italian tax police said on Thursday they seized suspected mafia assets worth 1.2 billion euros in the first five months of the year and investigated over 5,000 people. (*)
