Malang, E Java (ANTARA News) - The National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BNP2TIK) hoped that some 8,300 of the 19,919 prospective Indonesian workers would pass a Korean language test for placement in South Korea.

"It is the South Korean Human Resources Development which would decide whether or not they will past the test," Ade Adam North of the BNP2TKI said here on Saturday.

He said that his agency hoped that about 8,300 of the applicants would pass the test, of whom 7,800 were expected to be employed in the manufacturing sector and 500 others in the fishery sector.

The 19,919 applicants were taking part in the employment permit system test of proficiency in Korean (EPS-TOPIK) here on Saturday.

BNP2TKI head Jumhur Hidayat said that South Korea provided a work opportunity quota for 40,000 foreigners in 2011, where 16 countries, including Indonesia, must compete to fill the job opportunities.

Besides from Indonesia, foreign workers in South Korea also came from China, Mongolia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Uzbekistan and a number of African countries.

Since 2004, the placement of Indonesian workers in South Korea has been done on the G-to-G basis.(*)
