"The raid at a star-rated hotel in Pekanbaru on Wednesday was carried out following the arrest of an African national, Mr. T on June 9, 2011 in Jakarta," Riau police chief Brig. Gen. Suedi Husein said at a press conference here on Wednesday night.
From interrogation police knew that methamphetamine would be sent through Pekanbaru and based on it a National Police team immediately conducted an operation to uncover the distribution of the narcotic drug.
From the raid at Room Number 302 of Hotel Dyan Graha on Jalan Gatot Subroto from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday the police seized 1.5 kilograms of methamphemtamine, a scale, eight cellphones and two passports, one of them belonging to a Malaysian national as evidence.
The police also arrested AD (48) a Malaysian national and H (28), ZN (37), RD (37), ZK (31) all Indonesian citizens.
From the development of the case the police then held two villagers of Siak district, Riau, who worked in an Ocean passenger ship company, namely DD (49) and AM (53) and a cash money worth Rp10 million.
"The two were held because they helped pass the meth from the check of officers at Sungai Apit port in Siak," he said.
Senior Commissioner of the National Police said the suspects arrested are part of the African and Asian international narcotic drugs distribution network.
"They are part of narcotics syndicates in Africa and Asia and the meth entered Indonesia after a transit in Johor, Malaysia," he said. (*)
