The number of products now at 45 which are required to be accompanied with manuals in the Indonesian language according to the minister`s regulation Number 19/2009 will be expanded in the future.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government plans to expand the coverage of products required to be accompanied with manuals in the Indonesian language.
The trade minister`s regulation Number 19 of 2009 requiring products to be accompanied with manuals in the Indonesian language would be reviewed to expand the coverage of products under the category, the director general of standardization and consumer protection, Nus Nuzulia Ishak, said here on Tuesday.
He said "the number of products now at 45 which are required to be accompanied with manuals in the Indonesian language according to the minister`s regulation Number 19/2009 will be expanded in the future."
Two alumni of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) have been reported detained for having sold two units of iPAD without manuals in the Indonesian language.
The two have been tried on a charge of violating Law Number 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection because they sold the telecommunication units without providing manuals in the Indonesian language.
When asked about the case Nusulia said that the products indeed were not yet covered by the trade minister`s regulation Number 19 of 2009.
He said however that the rule was not something that could not be changed and it would likely be reviewed.
He said the regulation was like the one made in 2002 covering 17 products. Regulation Number 19 of 2009 expands the coverage to 45 products due to the increasing number of products in the market.
According to the regulation every telematic and electronic products produced or imported for trade in the domestic market is required to be accompanied with manuals and guarantee cards in the Indonesian language.
