Assistant II on Economic Affairs of the South Sumatra Regional Government Eddy Hermanto said here on Tuesday that the toll road projects were expected to begin at the end of 2011.
He said in the initial stage of the toll road project work would be done on the Indralaya-Jakabaring, Alang-Alang Lebar-Betung and Betung-Jakabaring sections.
Eddy said work on the project`s first phase, namely the Indralaya-Jakabaring section, would last about 12 months.
The Indralaya-Jakabaring tollroad section would have a length of 37 kilometers, the Alang-Alang Lebar-Betung section 58 kilometers and the eastern ring road 42 kilometers, he said.
Eddy said that the toll road would be built by a Malaysian contractor but he did not disclose the name of the Malaysian firm.
He said that in order to manage the toll road projects, the regional government needed to set up a regional government company,
"The Malaysian investor is ready to construct the toll road projects, pending the completion of administrative requirements based on regulations in force in Indonesia," Eddy said.
"We hope that at the end of 2012 South Sumatra will already have toll roads," Eddy added.
