Sukabumi (ANTARA News)- Household woman Heni (42) of Dayeuhluhur village, Warudoyong sub-district, Sukabumi, West Java, suffered massive burns sustained by a gas canister blast when cooking.

ANTARA learnt from the ill-fated woman`s daughter, Euis, the blast took place at 5 am when her mother was attending a stall selling hors d`oeuvres. At that time her mother was cooking water, and a loud bang was heard from the stall.

"My mother ran outside, and I notice my mother`s face, palms of her hands, feet and knees were badly burnt. Me and my family immediately rushed her to the Syamsudin hospital in Sukabumi," Euis told ANTARA News Tuesday.

Euis said she did not know exactly what had happened, all she remembered was that her mother was cooking water and apparently did not know whether it was the hose of the carburetor or the gas canister that she used to cook had a leak which caused the blast. "I did not know how it happened," she said.

In the meantime, head of the Sukabumi city cooperative, industry and trade agency Dudi Fathul Jawad said that he strongly suspected that the blast was caused by a leaked carburetor hose. But he had left the accident to the police.

He also said that he had also reported the accident to state oil and gas company PT Pertamina, which promised to send the necessary help. "We will try that the victim will receive financial help," Dudi said.

The blast of 3-kg gas canisters in the past week had caused injuries to two people, the latest was Heni, and on July 13 was an old woman, Siti Hindun (60), of Selajambe village, Cisaat sub-district, Sukabumi regency, also victim of gas canister blasts.
