Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian police are making serious efforts to locate and arrest former Democrat Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin who has been declared an international fugitive, a spokesman said.

"We keep monitoring his movements and are handling his case in all seriousness. Let`s just wait (for the results), the head of the National Police`s Public Relations Division, Insp Gen Anton Bachrul Alam. said here on Wednesday.

Anton said police were continuing their hunt for Nazaruddin.

"Our officers are still after him. Obviously, we must keep what we are doing secret so we cannot disclose it to the public," he said.

He said any lead to Nazaruddin`s whereabouts would be useful to the police although the initial information always had to be verified.

"He (Nazaruddin) is now staying in another country. Of course, we must first coordinate with the country concerned because we cannot arrest him just like that," he said.

Police had sent a red notice on Naxaruddin to Interpol at the request of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to arrest Nazaruddin for his alleged part in a corruption case linked to the SEA Games athletes village project in Palembang, South Sumatra.

Head of the National Police`s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) Insp Gen Sutarman said police had detected Nazaruddin`s whereabouts. However, he declined to elaborate.

He said police had a device to detect Nazaruddin`s whereabouts.

"We will not disclose his whereabouts because, if we do, he may move to another location ," he said.

Police are trying their utmost to help the anti-graft body catch Nazaruddin, he said.
