Solo, Central Java (ANTARA News) - A senior UN official said the common understanding reached at the high-level dialog on sustainable development here could serve as an initial draft decision of the Rio+20 conference in Brazil next year.

"I promise to make the `Solo messages` an initial draft decision of Rio+20," UN Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Sha Zukang said following the conclusion of the three-day dialog here on Thursday.

He said , the Solo meeting which brought together participants from 90 countries, 56 UN bodies and NGOs had made a significant contribution and was as a milestone in the history of mankind.

"I will report the `Solo Messages` to the UN Secretary General. Many messages were produced at the meeting," he said.

The Solo Messages clarified the vision of institutional framework for sustainable development. Sustainable development relied on economic, social and environmental pillars, he said.

One of the Solo Messages was that to achieve common goals there was need to renew the political commitment to sustainable development and translate it into concrete actions.

In the Solo Messages, participants of the just-concluded dialog underscored the need to ensure that economic, social and environmental pillars will work together, with each of the pillars integrating the goals of the other two pillars.

They said at international level there need to be an organization to increase the integration of sustainable development. They also attached significance to efforts to strengthen the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
