Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution expressed optimism here on Tuesday that the country`s economy would still grow 6.6 percent this year against the backdrop of the current crisis in Europe and the US.

He said after attending President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s speech at the parliament that although there had been economic slowdown in Europe and the US that might affect exports he believed the national economy would remain good.

He said investment remained strong and it had even been dominating in the growth.

"Indeed there has been a slowdown but our economy is still growing because it is dominated by consumption and more investment. Indeed certain export-import activities have been affected but we will still be able to grow 6.6 percent," he said.

Finance minister Agus Martowardojo meanwhile said that although the economic crisis in Europe and the US would not directly threaten the country`s economy he would remain alert by continuing to maintain the country`s financial resilience and health.

He said the government had to manage its finance and debt prudently.

"To anticipate against crisis we certainly will keep the financial and resilience indicators to remain good. In terms of finance it includes fiscal, debt, growth and inflation management," he said.

He said so far Indonesia`s economy had remained good and he believed it would continue to be good in the future. (T.M041/H-YH/HAJM/F001)
