"We have targeted to dispatch 800 migrant workers abroad," Head of the Manado Labour Placement and Protection Office (BP3TKI) Fransikskus Lumi said here on Sunday.
He said the office would use all the available channels to dispatch migrant workers abroad, including government-to-government contact and private labour placement agencies.
Indonesia had so far established G-to-G contact with Japan and South Korea to send migrant workers to those countries. Most of Indonesian migrant workers are employed in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei through the service of PPTKIS.
"Through G-to-G cooperation a maximum of 500 workers will be employed abroad. The remaining 300 workers will be sent abroad through the service of labor placement agencies," he said.
"In the two countries of destination, Indonesian migrant workers will be employed as nurses and factory workers. Among the qualifications needed for the jobs are expertise and language proficiency," he said.
He said Indonesian migrant workers who want to seek employment in South Korea must at least pass a number of phases, including Employment Permit System-Korean Language Test/Test of Proficiency in Korea (EPS-KLT).
