Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s national women`s basketball team defeated Uzbekistan 68-65 in the fourth match of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Championship for Women 2011 Level II in Omuram Nagasaki, Japan, on Wednesday.

The win was the third made by the team after the ones made against Sri Lanka and Malaysia before. The team lost against Kazhakstan earlier.

Assistant manager Cecilia Dwi Maya Siwari said the team played rather slow in the first quarter so that their attack was not too aggressive.

With a little change in the formation and game pattern Jacklien Ibo and friends finally able to make a 17-14 margin.

In the second quarter the coach instructed the players to increase attacks and with strong discipline Wulan Ayuningrum led her friends to overpower their opponent to widen the victory margin to 35-21.

"The players are very disciplined in the defense and also in the offense," she said.

In the third quarter Uzbekistan increased attacks weakening the nataional team`s defense which was then exploited to short its margin to 48-50.

Uzbek players continued attacking in the fourth quarter and were able to overpower the national team to 57-56.

The national team`s spirit however did not drop and after re-ordering its attack and strengthening its defense the national team could finally control the game. But only in the last minutes could the Indonesian team collect more points to reach 68-65.

With strong discipline amidst continued attacks from their opponent the national team finally finished the game winning 68-65.

"The key to the victory was discipline," Cecilia said.

The top scorers in the match were captain Wulan Ayuningrum with 20 points and four rebounds, Jacklien Ibo 17 and 11 rebounds, Yunita Sugianto seven points and six rebounds, Maharani six points and two rebounds and Fanny and Hanum Fasya with five points.

The national team coached by William Frazier McCommon is scheduled to play against Singapore on Thursday.
