"Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa supports our proposal to put the draft regulation on hold," Deputy Secretary General of the Indonesian Businessmen Association (Apindo) Franky Sibarani said here on Thursday.
Franky said the draft regulation, if endorsed, would disrupt industrial growth.
Citing an example, he said several clauses in the draft regulation ran counter to the spirit of the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development (MP3EI) which designates six regions as main economic corridors through 2025.
Earlier, Rajasa told reporters at Muara Angke market in West Jakarta on Wednesday that the government would review the draft regulation, citing its negative impact on the business world.
"We have talked with the business world. We have directly asked the deputy for legislation to the state secretary to postpone the draft regulation because much still has to be discussed again," he said.
He said the government would discuss again the draft regulation which constitutes the implementation of Law No. 18 of 1998 on garbage management by involving all interested parties because the draft regulation, if endorsed, would have the potential to push up inflation rate and give rise to high cost economy.
"The problem will be discussed at a trilateral meeting involving the state ministry for the environment as a user, other relevant ministries and the business world," he said.
Hopefully, after the draft regulation had been discussed profoundly there would be solution acceptable to the state ministry for the environment and the business world, he said.
The draft regulation, if endorsed, would affect not only large scale industries but also small and medium scale businesses, Franciscus Welirang, director of instant noodle maker PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, said.
