Among the regions that enter the rainy season in October are most of Riau and Jambi provinces, most of South Sumatra, northern part of Lampung, Sumatra, and most of Bangka, Sumatra, Banten (West Java), most central and southern part of West Java, mosJakarta (ANTARA News) - Most Indonesian regions or 131 season zones, 38.3 percent of the country will enter the rainy season next month, according to the Geophysics, Climatology and Meteorology Agency (BMKG).
"The beginning of the rainy season for 2011 to 2012 in 342 season zones is predicted to happen generally in October namely 131 zones and also in November in 121 zones," BMKG`s chief of climate, agro-climate and maritime climate, Nurhayati, said here on Tuesday.
She said several regions started entering rainy season in August namely nine zones or 2.63 percent, September 29 zones or 8.48 percent and December 43 zones (12.57 percent).
Among the regions that enter the rainy season in October are most of Riau and Jambi provinces, most of South Sumatra, northern part of Lampung, Sumatra, and most of Bangka, Sumatra.
While on Java island the regions are most of Banten (West Java), most central and southern part of West Java, most of central part of Central Java and part of central East Java.
Other parts that start entering the rainy season in October are most of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara including Mataram city in Lombok, western Lombok, most of Manggarai and northern Ngada.
In Kalimantan the rainy season will start in the month in most of the region while in Sulawesi in eastern Poleali, eastern Enrekang, northern Sidrap, southern Luwu, Tana Toraja, central Gowa, northern Jeneponto, some part of Bulukumba and Sinjay, western Kolaka, Selayar Sigi, Kotamobagu, parts of Bolaang Mongondow and southern Minahasa.
The rainy season also start in October in Maluku and Papua namely in northern Halmahera and Jayapura.
In the past 30 years (1981 to 2010) the start of the rainy season happen at the same time in most regions or 213 zones on average while it happens later in 87 zones and earlier in 42 zones.
The rain in the 2011-2012 rainy season in most regions or 267 zones (78.07 percent) is predicted to be normal and above normal levels in 40 zones (11.70 percent) and below normal levels in 35 zons (10.23 percent).
Regarding the current drought in a number of regions in the country Nurhayati said that it has already been predicted to happen and it is still within a normal range because based upon analysis the peak of the dry season is in August and now it is entering a rainy season.(*)
