Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Mindo Rosalina Manullang alias Rosa was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail on Wednesday after being found guilty of paying bribes to a ministry official.

Chief judge Suwidya in reading the verdict said "she has been proven guilty of corruption."

Rosa, a former employee of Muhammad Nazaruddin, the former treasurer of the ruling Democrat Party, was also fined Rp200 million.

Rosa, along with marketing manager of PT Duta Graha Indah (DGI) Mohammad El Idris, also a defendant, had pleaded guilty to giving Rp4.3 billion worth of checks to Muhammad Nazaruddin as a member of the House of Representatives and Rp3.2 billion to Wafid Muharam as secretary of the sports ministry. El Idris was already sentenced to two years in jail

The jury said the defendant`s action was aimed at ensuring the success of PT DGI`s bid for a SEA Games Athlete Building project in Palembang.

The judges said Rosa had violated articles in the law on corruption.

Upon hearing the verdict, Rosa said she had yet to decide whether to accept or appeal it.

Rosa`s case has been attracting wide public attention as it involved a ministry secretary and also a former executive of the ruling party. (*)
