Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands Province (ANTARA News) - The Malaysian government on Thursday deported 304 problematic Indonesian migrant workers from Pasir Gudang in Johor Bahru to Tanjungpinang.

Spokesman of Tanjungpinang task force for problematic migrant workers management Juramadi Esram said here on Friday that the workers arrived at Sri Bintan Pura port here by Telaga Express ferry

at 8.45 local time on Thursday evening.

"The deported problematic Indonesian migrant workers are made up of 214 men and 90 women," Jurmadi said, adding that they were temporarily accommodated at Wisma Transito in Tanjungpinang before being sent back to their respective hometowns.

He said those of Sumatra origin would be sent back to their hometowns through Dumai while the rests from Java and eastern part of Indonesia would be transported by Pelni ship to Tanjung Priok in Jakarta.

But he added that the Pelni ship would depart from Sri Bayintan port to Jakarta next Monday and therefore they had to stay in Tanjungpinang for some more days.

According to Jurmadi, the deported workers did not have official working permit in Malaysia so they had to serve a prison sentence before being deported to Indonesia.

He said that since 2003 until September 2011 Malaysia has deported a total of 243,689 problematic Indonesian migrant workers to Tanjungpinang.

The number of deported workers since then exceeded the 230,000 population of Tanjungpinang, the Riau Islands provincial capital city.

In general they experienced psychological and physical stress after the deportation, Jurmadi said. (*)
