Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono said on Sunday the Indonesian delegation was in the middle of preparing materials for the event due to take place from November 28 to December 9, 2011.
He said Indonesia was active in negotiations at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Summit held in Cancun, Mexico, last year to find solution to a deadlock in Annex-1 countries` commitment to reduce carbondioxide in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
"It is likely that all parties will be pessimistic about the presence of a binding agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to handle climate change," he said.
However, the Indonesian delegation to the summit would make every effort to lobby developed nations to reduce carbon emissions, he said.
At the 16th climate change summit held in Cancun last year, Japan and several other countries including Russia were not willing to continue their commitment to reducing gas emissions in accordance with their obligations as developed nations (Annex-1) in the Kyoto Protocol.
"Therefore, the Indonesian delegation will make an effort to encourage developed nations to reduce their carbon emissions according to the Kyoto Protocol," he said.
Indonesia has set itself a target of reducing gas emissions by 26 percent in 2020. (*)
