"A feasibility study has been conducted, and Indonesia is considered to have great potentials to host Midea manufacturing facilities," PT Midea Electronics Indonesia President Director Jino Sugianto said here on Wednesday.
He said Midea intended to build an electronics industry as a whole, and not just a assembling plant in Indonesia and therefore his company was awaiting the readiness of domestic parties to supply electronic components.
"There are some components whose suppliers also supply other electronic industries in Indonesia, and do the suppliers have the capacity if Midea will invest here?", he asked.
He reiterated that Midea planned to make Indonesia its electronic export base for ASEAN and Australia because it was important for the company to reach production economic scale to be competitive.
"The investment we want to make is quite big ," Jino said without mentioning the figure.
But he added that in addition to the readiness of component suppliers, his side was still studying the ability of port infrastructure in Indonesia to serve the flow of exports.
"That is our consideration whether the investment is conducted as soon as possible or delayed," he said.
He added that Indonesia in general has big electronic market that attracts investors.
Based on projection of Electronics Marketer Club (EMC), domestic electronic market would reach Rp33.2 trillion until the end of this year or rose by 20 percent compared to that in 2010.
"Consumer goods industries including electronics usually grow three folds of economic growth which this year is predicted to reach 6.5 percent," Jino Sugianto said.
