Kustantinah told a press conference here on Wednesday that the drugs were confiscated during Operation Pangea IV on September 20 - 27, 2011.
She said that the BPOM officials confiscated 57 items of drugs of which 43 items or 75.4 percent were illegal drugs, 12 items (21 percent) were illegal traditional medicines and 2 items (3.5 percent) were illegal food supplement.
The Pangea Operation, where Indonesia took part for the first time, is an operation on international scale online sales of illegal or counterfeit drugs under the coordination of the Interpol`s International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO).
During the operation, a total of 30 websites which promoted illegal drugs, including counterfeit drugs, were blocked while the drugs were confiscated. The operation was conducted by a task force which was composed of personnel from the BPOM, police and director general of customs and excise.
Of the 43 items of illegal drugs confiscated by the BPOM operation task force 26 items (45.6 percent) were medicines designed to overcome male`s erectile dysfunction, 10 items were female libido drugs and seven items (12.3 percent) were for local Anestassia.
The traditional drugs were drugs for reducing weight, liniment and illegal food supplement.
Kustantinah said that the illegal drugs consisted of 1,225 boxes, 115 bottles, 24 tubes, 13 sachets and 240 tablets with an estimated value of Rp82 million. (*)
