Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The ASEAN Summit to be held in Bali next November 17-19, 2011, is expected to adopt an accord named Bali Concord III that will affirm the association`s resolve to participate in the settlement of global issues, an Indonesian official said.

"Bali Concord III or the Bali Declaration on the ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations accords with ASEAN`s theme for year," Michael Tene, spokesman of the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry, said here Friday.

As ASEAN was expected to be more active in contributing to the handling of global issues in the future, the summit in Bali would discuss what steps the association must take to meet the expectation.

The concord`s contents which would be one of the summit`s main topics would cover ASEAN`s role in and contribution to efforts to settle global issues of common concern. The summit would also dwell on regional security matters.

"The 19th ASEAN Summit will also discuss how to create an environmentally safe and prosperous ASEAN," Tene said.

In conjunction with the 19th ASEAN Summit, ASEAN would also hold meetings its dialogue partners, namely Australia, New Zealand, India, South Korea, Japan and China.

According to plans, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon would also attend an ASEAN-UN conference as part of the summit`s subsidiary meetings.

On the last day of the summit on November 19, the East Asia Summit (EAS) would take place with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and US President Barack Obama attending.

The EAS in Bali on November 19 would be the sixth after the forum was established in 2005. It would be participated in by ASEAN`s 10 member countries and their dialog partners.(*)
