They (Apple) are positive, they are interested (in investing in Indonesia).
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi on Thursday noted that global technology major Apple is still keen to invest its capital in Indonesia.

He made the statement while refuting rumors circulating on social media platforms claiming that the US-based company has canceled its plan to invest in the country.

"No, those (rumors) are hoaxes. They (Apple) are positive, they are interested (in investing in Indonesia)," he told journalists in Depok, West Java province.

Although he refrained from disclosing details about Apple's planned investment, the minister informed that the government is currently devising incentives to draw the Tim Cook-led company to actualize its investment in Indonesia.

According to him, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment is working on the incentives.

"I can assure you that we have been receiving positive rather than negative signals (of investment). Microsoft is also interested (in investing)," he said.

Earlier, on April 17, 2024, Cook, the chief executive officer of Apple, met President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta to discuss his company's potential to invest in Indonesia.

Minister Setiadi and Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita accompanied President Widodo during the meeting.

"This Apple's visit is part of our country's efforts to draw in investment and pay attention to the development of an ecosystem suitable for advancing technology," Setiadi said after the meeting.

The following day, Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said on social media that Apple was interested in investing capital to support the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the new capital (IKN) Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

"They expressed interest in investing, especially in AI development at the IKN and AI centers in Bali and Solo," he informed in an Instagram post.
