"Community welfare must be a main priority in city development and decision making," OIKN head Bambang Susantono said here on Thursday.
He stressed that the development of Nusantara as a livable city will need to start by putting the focus on humans.
Livable cities aim to provide a high quality of life, supported by strong governance, fair access to services, and high-quality infrastructure.
The main characteristics of a livable city include holistic urban planning, sustainable development, and the inclusion of the informal sector.
"These are what are being built in Nusantara," he added.
The development of Nusantara aims to set new standards of environmental quality and make the new capital a city that is comfortable to live in and loved by residents and visitors.
Thus, Nusantara has been envisaged as a sustainable forest city and a livable and lovable city. One important component of a livable and lovable city is people's relationship with their culture.
"In Nusantara, we respect the importance of culture. For example, we continue to respect and preserve traditions that have been upheld for generations in this area," he said.
The new capital will provide special spaces where art and culture can develop and be accessed by everyone. One of them is Pancasila Park, a public open space to foster relationships between residents, including through Indonesia's diverse cuisines.
Meanwhile, to promote culture, the Nusantara Cultural Center is being built to showcase local traditions while encouraging the development of artistic and cultural expressions.
"Creating harmony between humans, nature, and culture in urban areas needs deliberative and collaborative efforts. These efforts are crucial to develop liveable cities that are also fun and sustainable," the OIKN head said.
