Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian and Turkish defense enterprises have inked a cooperation agreement to jointly develop the new generation of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) and strengthen the production ecosystem.

The agreement on Bayraktar Kizilelma UCAV development cooperation was signed between Turkish defense company Baykar and Indonesia's Republikorp Group during the 2026 SAHA defense and aerospace exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey.

"Together with Baykar, we are developing a sustainable aerospace and unmanned vehicle ecosystem, starting from the production, maintenance, human resources development, and future technology research," Republikorp Group founder Norman Joesoef said in written remarks received on Thursday.

He explained that the new cooperation continues the joint venture agreement signed by the two companies in 2025 to domestically produce Bayraktar TB3 and Bayraktar Akinci drones in Indonesia.

The partnership, he said, is now expanding into the joint development of a new generation of UCAVs and the establishment of a sustainable aerospace industry.

According to Joesoef, the cooperation will include technology transfer, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, as well as localized production and integration centers.

It will also cover human resource development, expert certification programs, and strategic future technology research.

Joesoef stated that the cooperation would strengthen Indonesia and Turkey as strategic partners in the defense industry, with a focus on technology transfer, national capacity building, and industrial innovation.

He also expressed optimism that the partnership would help strengthen Indonesia’s air defense capabilities in the future.
