Sukabumi, W.Java (ANTARA News) - The number of people infected with HIV-AIDS in Sukabumi city, West Java province had increased significant and there were now 470 , head of Sukabumi Health Office, Ritanenny Edlien Silyena Mrah said here Saturday.

"The number of the patients according to our data and those of the AIDS Eradication Commission (KPAD) of Sukabumi had reached such a high number, m . With this high number of patients, Sukabumi rank in the list of HIV-AIDS in West Java increased from level fourth to third, she explained.

According to her, the increasing number of HIV-AIDS is caused by the high mobilization of the population to Sukabumi city which are mostly drug users. The number of HIV-AIDS sufferers is the are those detected by the office and KPAD.

"Of particular concern to us is that those who are not detected has been injected with special drugs," she added.

Meanwhile, the head of disease control and environmental division, health office of Sukabumi, Rita Fitrianingsih said that of the 470 people with HIV-AIDS, about 70 percent had consumed narcotics and infected their spouses and partners.

She said the office together with Sukabumi`s HIV-AIDS Eradication Commission (KPAD) continued to socialize and disseminate at schools and the community about the dangerous disease.

"From our previous data, the number of HIV-AIDS sufferers are 400 people. But currently their number reached 470," Rita noted. (*)
