Jakarta (ANTARA News ) - Japan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Koichiro Gemba visited Jakarta from October 13 to 14, 2011 to hold a Strategic Dialogue with Indonesia`s Minister of Foreign Affairs, according a Foreign Ministry press release.

With the recent talks in Jakarta the two countries have so far held three dialogue meetings. The first one took place on February 18, 2011, and the second on July 21, 2011.

At the first session of the third dialogue on October 13, 2011 at the Pancasila Building in Jakarta, the two ministries discussed developments in the RI-Japan bilateral relationship and the efforts needed to strengthen their strategic relationship in the political, security, economic fields and in citizens exchanges.

The two sides also agreed to step up bilateral cooperation by having intensive dialogues and provide counseling for at ministerial, vice ministerial and general director`s level in the economic field (infrastructure development in particular), renewable energy, food security and disaster management.

Besides, they also agreed to cooperate in supporting Egypt`s democracy within n the framework of the Bali Democracy Forum.

In the second session of the dialogue on October 14 2011, in Jakarta, both ministers discussed preparations for an ASEAN-Japan Summit and East Asia Summit (EAS) to be held on November 12, 2011.

Both ministers were optimistic the Summit would result in a Joint Declaration, an ASEAN-Japan Action Plan and also an EAS Declaration which will open a new horizon for wider cooperation.

Besides, the dialogue also discussed issues of People`s Republic of Tiongkok (RRT), North Korea and Myanmar, trilateral cooperation between Indonesia-Japan_Palestine and global issues related United Nations`s Security Council and climate change.

This is the first time for Koichiro Gemba visiting Indonesia since officially promoted as Japan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 2 2011 in PM Yoshihiko Noda`s cabinet. Previously, the minister has visited Singapore and Malaysia as his first duty visit in Southeast Asia.

This is also the second meeting between RI-Japan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs after holding the first meeting on the sidelines of General Assembly in New York, US, on September 2011. (*)
