Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Newly installed chief of the Financial Transactions Analysis and Reporting Center (PPATK) Muhammad Yusuf said PPATK would remain independent.

"God Willing, we will make it to remain independent. I have been sworn in for that," Muhammad Yusuf told the press here on Tuesday.

He said that if someone had made a mistake he should take a follow-up step because otherwise he also then made a mistake.

The same thing was also expressed by PPATK Deputy Chairman Agus Santoso who said that the center would not be allowed to be intervened by any party.

"We have given oaths and promised to keep PPATK to remain independent. We will investigate those who apparently make mistakes," Agus said.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace on Tuesday installed Muhammad Yusuf as new chief of PPATK for the 2011 - 2016 period.

Yusuf was installed together with his deputy Agus Santoso. Yusuf, who was born in South Sumatra on May 18, 1962, replaced his predecessor Yunus Hussein.

Hussein resigned from his post because he joined the leadership selection of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Yusuf who began his career at the prosecutor`s office corps was not a new figure at the PPATK. He was previously director of the public and regulation affairs at the PPATK.

He was once awarded the best prosecutor category in 2003 and was a member of the prosecutors` team that dealt with the case of former president Soeharto.
