The Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office here said that the epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers on shore at 4.74 degrees northern latitude and -95.96 degrees eastern longitude.
"The earthquake was recorded at III modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in the Banda Aceh city (capital of Aceh province)," Rilza Akbar of the BMKG said here on Sunday.
Although the earthquake is a minor, many residents rushed out of their houses or buildings when it shook the areas.(*)
