Simpang Ampek, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Flood has been inundating 932 houses in Sasak sub-district, West Sumatra, in the past few days, forcing some 800 people to evacuate to higher ground.

The flood made Maligi village isolated because it could not be reached either by sea or land, acting Nagari Sasak Mayor Roni said on Sunday.

He feared that residents of the village would run out of food as the flood had hit the village over the past week.

"We need food and tent assistance," he said.

He said the flood was inundating 932 houses at a height of 1 to 1.5 meters.

By Sunday rains continued to fall in the area, causing local residents to panic. "We fear various diseases will affect residents because flood water has been inundating their houses over the past few days," he said.(*)
