Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s palm oil exports in September slid to 1.6 million tons from 1.8 million tons a month earlier on weakening demand, the Association of Indonesian Palm Oil Producers (GAPKI) said.

GAPKI data released on Thursday said the September 2011 palm oil exports represented a 16 percent increase compared to the same period a year ago.

GAPKI Executive Director Fadhil Hasan said September`s palm oil exports came under pressure due to low demand in exporting countries such as India, European Union and China.

Palm oil exports to India, European Union and China in September fell 14.26 percent, 18.78 percent and 3.98 percent respectively compared to August.

The data showed palm oil exports to India dropped from 637,000 tons to 546,000 tons, European Union from 592,000 tons to 481,000 tons, and China from 305,000 tons to 293,000 tons.

Despite the drop, India remained the biggest buyer of Indonesia`s palm oil, contributing 29.94 percent of the country`s overall palm oil exports in September.

Meanwhile, palm oil exports to the European Union and China respectively accounted for 26.36 percent and 16.08 percent of the overall palm oil exports in September.
