Karawang, West Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s rowing team shared gold medals with Thailand in the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) here on Friday.

On the first day of the competition, the Indonesian team won two gold medals but Thailand was able to collect three gold medals from canoeing and kayak.

Indonesia`s first gold medal was won by Eka Octarianus in the men`s Canoe 1 1,000-meter race and in the men`s Canoe 2 1,000-meter race where Eka paired with Anwar Tarra.

Thailand won the gold medals through Wichan Jaitieng in the men`s kayak 1 1,000-meter race, Piyaphan Phaophat in the men`s kayak 2 1,000 -meter race pairing with Nathaworn Waenphrom, and through Piyaphan Phaophat, Nathaworn Waenphrom, Chatchart Bunmuen and Natthaphon Yatra in the men`s kayak 4 1,000-meter race.

Eko clocked 04:16.00 and beat Thai Win Htike who clocked 04:21.09 in the men`s canoe 1 1,000 meter event. The third place was won by a Vietnamese rower.

In the men`s canoe 2 1,000-m event, Eka and Anwa Tarra achieved the shortest time of 04:00.44 beating Win Htike and Ye Aung Soe of Myanmar who clocked 04:01.01.

Thai rower Phanudet Phetmika and Thammara Phaophadee clocked 04:08.84 to finish third.(*)
