Samarinda (ANTARA News) - The culture and tourism office of East Kalimantan province will hold an Etam Kemilau Art and Cultural Festival in an effort to preserve the local culture, an official said.

"We are ready to hold the Etam Kemilau Arts and Cultural Festival on Wednesday, November 15, 2011 as part of our efforts to attract more domestic and foreign tourists," local culture and tourism office chief Achmad Adha said here on Friday.

He said delegations from 14 districts and cities in East Kalimantan would participate in the festival.

According to him, the festival was a permanent part of East Kalimantan`s Culture and Tourism office annual calendar, organized every end of the year in a bid to preserve the local arts and cultural traditions.

Kemilau Festival 2011 will be the sixth since it was held for the first time in 2005.

Achmad said the festival was regularly conducted for the participants to present all kinds of arts and cultures from the palace, coastal areas, and hinterland.

He added that East Kalimantan had three important elements in the civilized arts and culture from the coastal areas, the palace, and hinterland.

Besides the Kemilau Festival 2011, several national and international events, namely Sukan Borneo allied countries game, and International Zapin Festival to be participated in by representatives from Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and other provinces with Malay culture such as Riau, Riau Islands, and South Sumatra.

Achmad said East Kalimantan would also host a National Film Festival (FFI) with participation of people in three cities, namely Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Tenggarong.
