Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s Simon Santoso on Saturday earned a gold medal after beating Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk from Thailand in the final round of the badminton`s men`s singles competition of the SEA Games here.

Ranked 11th in the world, Simon prevailed after three sets with the successive scores of 21-10, 11-21, 21-19.

Tanongsak got the silver medal while the bronze medal went to Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia whom Tanongsak had defeated in the semi-finals. Taufik won the bronze after beating Derek Wong Zi Liang from Malaysia.

Simon`s gold medal was the fifth the Indonesian badminton team had collected. The other four gold medals came from the team event, men`s doubles, women`s doubles, mixed doubles.

"I am happy I have contributed a gold medal and been able to keep up my SEA Games achievement of two years ago," Simon said after the game. Simon also defeated Tanongsak at the Taiwan GP Gold 2010. (*)
