Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have yet to examine PT Bukaka Teknik, one of the contractors of Kutai Kertanegara bridge which collapsed over the Mahakam river in East Kalimantan on Saturday, a spokesman said.

"In our investigations so far, we have not yet set our sights on Bukaka. We will examine experts first, particularly construction experts because there are certain procedures that have to be followed in construction d to bridge construction," National Police Headquarters spokesman Insp. Gen. Saud Usman Nasution said here on Tuesday.

Police had so far questioned eleven witnesses over the collapse of the bridge, including a worker who was at the location when the accident occurred.

"Regarding the number of workers who were there when the bridge collapsed there is still no clear information. We will do our best to know the accurate number but for now we only have a small number of witnesses," Saud said.

Police have not yet named any suspect with regard to the collapse of the Kutai Karatanegara bridge which killed at least 18 people.

"If we find negligence, the suspects could be charged based on Criminal Code articles," the police spokesman said.

The bridge was constructed by a group of companies including state-owned PT Hutama Karya and officially commissioned in 2001.
