Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bakrie Group signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal government of Nigeria on an investment deal worth US$1 billion in Abuja on December 5, the company said.

Indra Bakrie, representative of the company, said in a press statement on Tuesday that the investment commitment was for a five year period.

He said that his company was optimistic with the investment commitment deal with the Nigerian federal government.

"It is the second time for Bakrie Group to expand its business into the country over the last 12 months," Indra said.

He said that the business expansion was aimed at leading the firm into the main player in the oil business in Asia which was reckoned in the international world.

He said that Group Bakrie had tree aims in developing oil business in Nigeria, namely maximizing Nigeria`s mining sector, exploring its agricultural sector and accelerating the development of its gas sector.

"With this business we want to stress that Indonesian companies have become more active in the formation of the world landscape, including that in Africa, particularly Nigeria," he said.(*)
