Jakarta (ANTARA News) - North Jakarta police have arrested the man who had fatally assaulted Christopher Melky Tanujaya last Monday.

North Jakarta police chief Senior Commissioner Andap Budhi Revianto said here on Friday the police arrested Abdul Jalil alias Adul alias Ayub (24) after searching for him for the past four days.

He said the jobless resident of Jalan Bakti, Gang Wirabuana RT 7/7 Number 23, Pluit, North Jakarta, was arrested on Thursday evening.

He said Adul stabbed Christopher to death using a knife. "It was a hold-up," he said.

Adul, a third-grade junior high school leaver, was caught after the police studied the CCTV record of the situation at the scene and collected information from witnesses.

"Adul was arrested at his home based on CCTV records and information from a witness who first helped the victim," he said.

He said the suspect wished to rob the victim`s Blackberry cellphone and so he followed him and right before the SDN 01 elementary school in Pluit, the incident occurred.

He said the suspect probably in his effort to rob the cellphone stabbed the victims four times in the neck and shoulder. "For fear the victim would shout he then ran away on a motorcycle taxi," he said.

Christopher, a 2009 Science Olympiad silver medalist who was also as student of a school in Singapore, was stabbed after getting off a public transport bus on the way home after playing futsal at Puri Mall in West Jakarta.(*)
