Monday`s ceremony was also attended by Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf, Vice Governor Muhammad Nazar, Chairman of Regional Legislative Council Hasbi Abdullah and other senior officers. Some Japanese tourists also attended the occasion.
Lhoknga subdistrict is one of the worst hit areas when the earthquake and tsunami struck. In fact, it is estimated that 80 percent of its population were missing or died.
The tsunami triggered by magnitude-9.1 earthquake reportedly killed around 200,000 people and rendered about one million people homeless in Aceh and Nias Island (North Sumatra Province).
