"It is because the Indonesian people are not confident of their own technology," Gusti said after opening a workshop on "Developing Success Stories in Strengthening the Innovation System."
According to the technology minister, more than 90 percent of industries in Indonesia was still using technology from overseas countries, while most pharmaceutical industries were dominated by foreign parties and using imported raw materials.
But he added that Indonesia in reality had strong capital, in addition to its potential of natural wealth such as coal, nickel, and others, to be in parallel with other developed countries.
Therefore, he would ask all sections at the Ministry of Research and Technology to inventory the various technologies that had been invented and to sort out which ones could be directly applied.
After that, he said, the business community in various industrial sectors would be invited to use the various available technologies.
Meanwhile, the chief of the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) Marzan Azis Iskandar said various innovations that had been invented should soon be realized instead of being a discourse.
Marzan explained that the central government would encourage the formation of regional innovation system as part of national innovation policy framework.
