Kuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - A Garuda flight from Jakarta scheduled to land at Denpasar`s Ngurah Rai airport on Saturday afternoon was diverted to Surabaya due to bad weather.

Flight GA 406 was scheduled to arrive at Denpasar at 3pm but due to the bad weather it flew back to Surabaya, Maria Ekaristi, a member of the committee for the Bali Documentary Film Festival (FFDB), said.

Maria Ekaristi was to pick up a Garuda passenger, Marcella Zalianty, an Indonesian actress scheduled to attend a press conference held in connection with the festival.

Marcella who was chosen to serve as the festival ambassador finally arrived at around 6pm but failed to attend the press conference.

Several other flights also underwent a delay due to the unfavorable weather conditions on Saturday afternoon.

Airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I spokesperson Sherly Yunita said the Garuda plane did not fail to land but was diverted due to the weather.

"Indeed it was diverted to Surabaya. The plane did fly around above but had not yet landed," he said.
