Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government supports development of "technopreneurship", business based on technology, because it could be the main factor of national development and support national self-reliance, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said.

"The society needs to support technopreneurship by loving and using domestic products, developing it and causing it to benefit the nation`s progress," he said.

The statement made by the Minister in a scientific speech on the 51th anniversary of Ahmad Dahlan University in Yogyakarta, Sunday.

In his speech titled "Technopreneurship to Support Sustainable National Self-Reliance", he said Japan progressed a decade because its society love and use domestic products.

Therefore, he said the achievement of vocational students who succeeded in producing prided products should be supported as one of the terms of an advanced country.

"Technopreneurship is the development of economic innovations," said Rajasa.

Regarding the terms, he said universities have responsibilities to develop people for employment but who also have knowledge and technology.

"Therefore, they could be the technopreneurs for a better future of our country," said Rajasa.

He further said, the present national system of education only develop more or less than 20 percent of technopreneurship scientists, hence it needs to be increased in order to become an advanced country.

Nevertheless, Rajasa said, Indonesia has many new technological inventions, but still has not used them maximally because the society is rather reluctant to use domestic products.

"We need to love and use our national products, but most people nowadays still use foreign products. Therefore, we need to continue to develop the spirit of loving and using national products," Hatta said.(*)
