The U.S. president`s hostile remarks towards Iran sought to cover up the failures of his presidency by diverting attention towards Iran.Tehran (ANTARA News/Xinhua-0ANA) - Iran`s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Wednesday that U.S. President Barack Obama `s threat to use military force against Iran over the country`s " peaceful" nuclear program is only meant for propaganda purposes, the local satellite Press TV reported.
Mehmanparast said that Obama`s remarks in his annual State of the Union address were part of his election campaign ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in the United States.
The U.S. president`s hostile remarks towards Iran sought to cover up the failures of his presidency by diverting attention towards Iran, Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Barack Obama vowed to use all options possible in stopping Iran`s bid for a nuclear weapon, but did not rule out a peaceful resolution.
"Let there be no doubt: America is determined to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and I will take no options off the table to achieve that goal," Obama said in his annual State of the Union address to the Congress.
"But a peaceful resolution of this issue is still possible, and far better, and if Iran changes course and meets its obligations, it can rejoin the community of nations," he said.
The United States and its allies are pressuring Iran to engage seriously in talks over its nuclear program, which the West says is a cover for making nuclear weapons, a claim rejected categorically by Iran.
