The 2012 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) was carried out by a group of experts from Yale University and Columbia University and presented in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum, a non-profit foundation aimed at improving the state of the world.
Taiwan was ranked in top place in the categories of how its people are affected by air quality, how their health is affected by the water they drink, and forest conservation.
In 2006 and 2008, Taiwan was ranked 24th and 40th among 133 and 149 countries, respectively.
The EPI report was produced based on performances across a range of policy categories related to environmental health and ecosystem vitality.
