Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A man who was on the police`s wanted list as a suspected terror cell member, identified by his initial as M, gave himself up to the authorities on Wednesday night (Feb 8), police said here Friday.

"M was on our wanted list as he was a member of the AO terror group which specializes in smuggling in weapons for terrorist activity," head of the National Police`s public relations division, Insp Gen Saud Usman Nasution said.

M reported and surrendered to the police`s anti-terror Special Detachment (Densus) 88. He confessed he was still in possession of a long-barrel and a short-barrel fire arm which he had hidden in a forest in the Depok area.

"A police team checked the truth of M`s confession in the field, and did find a jungle rifle and an FN pistol," Saud said.

M was part of a group some whose previously arrested members had told investigators they had a weapons cache in a forest in the Depok area, West Java.

"At the time, we also conducted checks in the field but we did not find anything as they had apparently moved the cache to another location. But now, we have located it," Saud said.

"We hope these two will eventually also surrender and hand in their weapons voluntarily ," Saud said.(*)
