Abraham said 2014 was the KPK`s official deadline but he was proposing to complete the commission`s investigation into the high-profile bailout in 2012.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Abraham Samad said the antigraft body would conclusively solve the Bank Century case by 2014 although he personally proposed to do it this year.

Speaking at a meeting with the House of Representatives` Bank Century Case Monitoring Team (Timwas) at the parliament building here Wednesday, Abraham said 2014 was the KPK`s official deadline but he was proposing to complete the commission`s investigation into the high-profile bailout in 2012.

"I am proposing 2012 to prevent the politicization of the case as is beginning to happen with some Democrat Party people suggesting we are purposely dragging our feet to keep the Bank Century bailout case a hot topic until 2014 (when the next general elections are to take place-ed)," Abraham said.

The KPK leadership, the House`s Timwas and the State Audit Board (BPK) held Wednesday`s meeting to discuss further steps in the handling of the Bank Century bailout case.

Abraham said 2014 had been officially set as the deadline for the KPK`s investigation into the case.

Earlier, Abraham had said the KPK would conduct an expose of the Bank Century case with he participation of experts named by the KPK and Timnas.

Meanwhile, Timwas member Chaeruman Harahap said the timeline set by KPK to complete the Bank Century case investigation was appropriate.

He said there was no longer any doubt that unlawful things had happened in the Bank Century case and investigators even already knew which articles of the law could be applied to the wrongdoings.

Another legislaor, Ahmad Yani, said ,in his view, the Bank Century case could actually be settled in three months` time

"The case is actually already crystal clear and the KPK really no longer needs to find more proof. It just needs political will," Yani said.

At the end of Wednesday`s meeting, legislator Taufik Kurniawan, in reading out the session`s conclusions, said Timwas had asked KPK to take immediate action on 9 BPK reports on and 13 findings from its forensic audit on the Bank Century bailout.

Timnas also asked KPK to maintain strict neutrality in its investigation and had taken note of KPK`s commitment to solve the case by 2014.(*)
