Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Ministry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Businesses is designing and building an ASEAN Service Center website as a means to establish cooperation among small and medium businesses in the region.

"The website of ASEAN SME Service Center will hopefully be able to serve as a means to establish cooperation among SMEs in the ASEAN region through other than SME Center," deputy for small and medium business resources studies to the cooperatives, small and medium businesses minister I Wayan Dipta said here on Wednesday.

He said the website was aimed among others at improving the competence and competitiveness of small and medium businesses with the help of information and communication technology.

The move would speed up the evenly distribution of small and medium businesses` capacity in Indonesia in their effort to benefit from information and communication technology, he said.

"This is one of our programs to improve SMEs` capacity to benefit from information and communication technology," he said.

Besides the website, he said his side would also take a concrete step to encourage SMEs to take advantage of information technology by among others giving them greater access to the internet, making the internet a communication media for business transactions and promotion media to increase the marketing of SME products.

He said his side along with other ASEAN member states was making an effort to improve the capacity of SMEs in using and managing information and communication technology.

"So the concrete program we will make is improving the capacity of SMEs and drawing up the materials of training for SMEs," he said. (*)
