"Up to February 24 we have admitted a total of 89 dengue fever sufferers or twice as many as last month. We are having difficulty accommodating them all," a vice director at the hospital, Irly Yulia, said on Sunday.
The hospital was now quite full so that some of the dengue fever patients had to be placed in the pediatric and internal diseases wards, she said.
"We are full because we never turn away a patient,including patients belonging to the poor group of the population,` she said.
As per December 2011, the hospital was treating 39 dengue fever patients whereas in November the figure was only 12. In January 2012 47 people were in the hospital for the same disease.
Irly said to save the life of a dengue fever patient it was important to take him or her to a hospital as soon as possible before he or she experienced the dengue shock syndrome, she said.
The general symptoms of dengue fever were sudden high fever, repeated urge to throw up, bleeding from the nose, restlessness and cold hands,she said.
