Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Some 62 countries are to take part in a World Stamp Championship and Exhibition 2012 at Jakarta`s Convention Center on June 18-14, a spokesman of the event`s organizers said.

The 62 countries include the US, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, South Africa and ASEAN`s 10 member states, Sriyoto, the executive chairman of the event`s organizing committee, said here Tuesday.

So far, 80 stamp dealers from Indonesia and other countries had already registered themselves for participation in the stamp exhibition sponsored by the Indonesian Philatelist Association and PT Pos Indonesia.

The foreign stamp dealers who had registered were from Thailand, Singapore, Taipei, Gibraltar, New Zealand , Britain, the US, Tunisia, Venezuela, Lituania and Russia.

"We expect the week-long exhibition to draw at least 21,000 visitors," Sriyoto said.

Also on display at the exhibition would be 2,500 kinds of stamps or 40,000 stamp sheets from collectors in many parts of the world,including a replica of the oldest stamp of Mauritius issued in 1874.

The organizers had invested Rp12 billion in the event to be themed "Bridge toward a Peaceful World through Stamps."

An international competition of stamps and other postal items owned by philatelists from throughout the world would take place parallel with the exhibition, he said

Other activities linked to the exhibition would be competitions in stamp arrangement and stamp coloring, a seminar and workshop on philately, a kids` corner, batik making demonstration, art performances and a philately quizz.

Aan Anwar, vice chairman of the event`s organizing committee, said during the exhibition PT Pos Indonesia would issue 14 special Indonesian stamp editions for 2012.

The special edition stamps would have designs inspired by traditional Indonesian cloth, batik and other cultural heritage objects recognized by Unesco.

Seven of the special edition stamps would be issued ahead of and the other seven during the exhibition, Aan said.
