Paris (ANTARA News/AFP) - France called for a ceasefire in the rebel-held area of Baba Amr in Syria`s city of Homs on Wednesday so it could evacuate two French journalists trapped in the besieged neighbourhood.

"France is mobilised to carry out the urgent evacuation of its two citizens trapped in Homs, in coordination with the Syrian authorities, the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) and the Red Crescent," foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero told a press conference.

"We expect the government in Damascus to put all the conditions in place for a safe and rapid evacuation, in particular an immediate ceasefire in Baba Amr," he said.

Syrian regime forces were bombarding rebel districts in Homs Wednesday for a 26th straight day, monitors said, as efforts continued to evacuate Le Figaro reporter Edith Bouvier, French photographer William Daniels and Spanish reporter Javier Espinosa.

Bouvier was wounded in an attack on a media centre last week that also killed US reporter Marie Colvin and French photojournalist Remi Ochlik.

Another journalist wounded in the attack, British photographer Paul Conroy, was evacuated to Lebanon on Tuesday.(*)
