Our region is now united in ASEAN 10 in its effort to reach ASEAN Community.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The space for international cooperation is getting wider after a change in geopolitics, global condition, and economic constellation as well as international politics, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said here on Wednesday.
Speaking after opening the Jakarta International Defense Dialogue at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), the head of state noted that the change of political constellation and the world economy could increase interstate cooperation in various fields.
"The bilateral relations in Southeast Asian region is getting stronger. Our region is blessed with peace, stability, and good cooperation. Our region is now united in ASEAN 10 in its effort to reach ASEAN Community," President Yudhoyono explained.
He noted that ASEAN had an important role in the region, and in 2011 it launched the agreement of Bali Concord 3 as the basis of ASEAN strategic cooperation in the political and economic fields and in the global political game after 2015.
"Defense diplomacy is the important part of the regional strategic relations. Therefore the ASEAN foreign ministers and defense ministers need to have a stronger cooperation," Yudhoyono said.
But the head of state explained that the capacity and quality of the development of defense cooperation architecture in Southeast Asian region should be improved.
