Jakarta (ANTARA News) - PT Bursa Efek Indonesia has confirmed it will launch 30 liquid and infrastructure indexes on April 1, 2012.

The director of development of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), Friederica Widyasari Dewi, explained here on Thursday that the 30 liquid index would list 30 of the market`s most liquid shares.

"BEI would choose shares in terms of their liquidity, market capitalization, frequency and volume," she said.

Regarding the infrastructure index, she said it would list infrastructure shares.

"However, we have not fixed the number of shares in the infrastructure index," she added.

Friederica noted BEI would launch the index to meet market demand, especially among local investment managers.

Although BEI claimed that the move was taken to follow up on demand, some market players considered that the new indexes would only add an additional burden on them, as they will be required to monitor more indexes as a reference for conducting transactions.(*)
